Alexandra Kersten Mota, Student of the Master’s Program
I have been interested in machine learning for a long time, and with the growing importance of AI in my day-to-day work – for example, in the development of AI products, the creation of predictive models and anomaly detection – I realised that I really wanted to gain a thorough understanding of the fundamentals. At the same time, it was important to me to be able to balance my studies with my job whilst still experiencing that ‘lecture hall atmosphere’ and working on practical projects.
That is exactly what the Master’s in Data Science at the University of Münster offers: I’m learning an enormous amount without feeling overwhelmed, and I can apply what I’ve learnt directly to my day-to-day work.
In the second module, for example, we fine-tuned a small ‘GPT-like’ language model for classification tasks – and these are precisely the approaches I’ve gone on to use in my job. I would particularly recommend this Master’s programme to people who don’t just want theory, but who want to truly understand data science and apply that knowledge directly in practice, especially if they are studying whilst working.
