Prof. Dr. Gottfried Vossen

Institute for Business Informatics – since 1993 holder of the chair for computer science, especially databases and information systems. Until 2021, he was an honorary professor at the University of Waikato Management School, Hamilton, New Zealand. Prof. Dr. Gottfried Vossen studied, received his doctorate, and qualified as a professor at RWTH Aachen and has been a visiting professor at, among others, the University of California in San Diego, USA, at Karlstad University in Sweden, at Marmara University in Istanbul, and at the Hasso Plattner Institute for Software Systems Engineering in Potsdam. He is a Fellow of the Gesellschaft für Informatik (GI) e.V., European editor of the journal Information Systems published by Elsevier, and since January 2004, he has been the director of the European Research Center for Information Systems (ERCIS) in Münster. He is also a member of the steering committee of Cert-IT, the certification body for IT specialists based in Bonn. His research interests are conceptual as well as application-oriented issues in the context of databases and information systems, digitalization, process modeling, data science, and AI. In 2008, he co-founded the ERCIS Launchpad with Prof. Dr. Axel Winkelmann in Münster, an annual idea competition for prospective founders as a precursor to the Science to Startup Convention of the REACH Euregio Startup Center. He is an author or co-author of well over 300 publications as well as more than 25 books on databases, business process modeling, the web, e-commerce, and computer architecture. Vossen is a co-founder of Janus Innovation GmbH, which is part of the Münsterland transformation network, and the consulting cooperative digital ganz normal eG, both based in Ahaus, which provide companies with advice on data and process-related issues of digitalization.
Prof. Dr. Gottfried Vossen is part of the academic leadership of the master’s programs in IT Management and Data Science. He teaches in the master’s programs IT Management, Data Science, University and Science Management, and Management & Innovation.
