Basil Islam is a filmmaker and visual anthropologist currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Visual Anthropology, Media, and Documentary Practices at Universität Münster Professional School. With over four years of experience in multimedia production and research coordination, he specializes in crafting visual narratives that bridge academic inquiry and accessible storytelling. His work spans institutional films, ethnographic documentaries, and multimedia research projects that explore spatial and sensorial practices across cultures.
Prior to his graduate studies, Basil earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi, India. His works include Caste-ing Space (2022) and Fields of Meaning (2025). He has collaborated with institutions including the India Foundation for the Arts, where he coordinated interdisciplinary research combining ethnographic methods with audio-visual documentation. Proficient in multiple languages including English, Malayalam, Tamil, and Hindi, Basil brings a multicultural perspective to his interdisciplinary practice at the intersection of visual media, anthropology, and social research.
