How to Finance My Project – Insights into Film and Cultural Funding
How do you finance a film or media project? What funding opportunities are available, and what should be considered when putting together a budget and financing plan?
These were some of the questions explored in the seminar “How to Finance My Project”, which took place on September 21 as part of our Master’s programme Visual Anthropology, Media and Documentary Practices.
Our guest speaker was Daniel Huhn, whom some of our students may know as the former head of Filmwerkstatt Münster. With his experience in the film and cultural sector, Daniel provided the students with practical insights into the different ways audiovisual projects can be funded in Germany.
The compact online session began with an overview of film and cultural funding structures in Germany, with a particular focus on the Westphalia region. The students were introduced to different funding schemes and gained a better understanding of how these structures work.
A central part of the session focused on project budgeting and financial planning. Using a concrete example, Daniel showed how a budget for an audiovisual project can be structured and what needs to be taken into account when developing a financing plan.
The session also highlighted that developing a strong project idea is only one part of bringing a film or media project to life. Understanding how to plan and secure its financial resources is just as important.
Thank you to Daniel Huhn for sharing his experience and providing our students with practical insights into an important part of developing and producing audiovisual projects.
