Prof. Dr. Helene Basu hands over to Prof. Dr. Thomas Stodulka

Prof. Dr. Helene Basu, initiator and academic director of the further education master program „Visual Anthropology, Media and Documentary Practices“ at the University of Münster Professional School gGmbH, has retired. After 7 years, she handed over the academic leadership of the program to Prof. Dr. Thomas Stodulka in the winter semester 2023/24. He co-directs the program alongside Thomas John, with support from study coordinators Julia Blumberg and Dr. Pablo Holwitt.

The three-year international master’s program „Visual Anthropology, Media and Documentary Practices“ trains students in the theory and practice of visual anthropology, documentary art (film/photography/installation) as well as media culture and media anthropology and has been offered on an extra-occupational basis since 2016.

Helene Basu has been Professor of Ethnology at the University of Münster since 2006, where she was also Head of the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology and Vice Dean for Research, Young Academics and International Affairs in the Department of History/Philosophy. Thomas Stodulka received his Ph.D. in Social and Cultural Anthropology from the Free University of Berlin, where he was also a junior professor from 2016 to 2023. In the winter semester of 2023/24, he shifted from the Institute for Social and Cultural Anthropology at the Free University of Berlin to the Department of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Münster, where he was appointed as Professor of Anthropology.
